Battleship

Battleship

In the adapted classroom game “Battleship” for ESL/EFL learners, each student receives a game board from a provided PDF and draws a secret linear battleship of 3–5 squares. The class is divided into pairs. Students take turns asking, “Do you like _______?” in relation to the grid. A “No” answer denotes a miss, marked with an “X”, and a “Yes” answer indicates a hit, marked with a check. The game continues until one student discovers the entire location of the other's battleship.

To escalate the challenge, multiple ships can be drawn, or a follow-up question can be added after the initial query, extending dialogue and engagement while practising language skills. This game, best suited for intermediate students who can read, takes 5-15 minutes and aids in language target practice by applying a familiar game setup to a learning environment.
